Playdough activity ideas for children and adults  Does Play-Doh go bad or does it go mouldy?

The salt in long forgtton Play-Doh crystallises. The photo below was taken of a specimen we encountered in an undisturbed corner of our fairly large playdough box. The powdery salt crystals formed across the surface and within all crevices of the now rock solid dough. The plastic tub was lidless and the doh inside had no odour or indeed hope of revival!

Does Play-Doh dough go off bad or mouldy?
Handmade dough can grow mould and crystallise if kept in damp conditions or left out to dry.
